Do you depend on sleep tracking devices or melatonin supplements etc to get good sleep, then you are not alone!!

Sleep is very important as it helps both our body as well as our brain to get relaxed and stay healthy.  It is necessary that we must sleep atleast for 6 hours in the night.  There are many people in the world who are unable to get sound sleep due to several reasons. These people try different things to get sound sleep.                                              

What is sleepmaxxing?

These days, sleepmaxxing has gained huge popularity whose main objective is to improve the overall sleep quality. It is noteworthy that sleepmaxxing encourages persons to optimise their sleep by means of techniques and products etc. In sleepmaxxing, practices like using sleep tracking devices, taking melatonin supplements plus using white noise machines, wearing weighted blankets, mouth taping for nose breathing and adhering to sleep schedules are followed.

Overdependence on sleepmaxxing is not good for us in these ways.

Orthosomia:

We could get anxious about getting perfect sleep if we are over dependent on sleepmaxxing methods. Bitter fact is that this anxiety would disrupt our natural process of falling and staying asleep etc. In the end, it would lead to a vicious cycle of poor quality sleep.

Dependency on sleep aids:

Depending on the sleeping supplements, tools etc would make us believe that these aids are essential for sleeping.  Our body`s natural ability to regulate sleep would diminish.

Disruption of natural sleep cycle:

Our body`s natural rhythm would get disrupted when we regularly try these new sleep maximising trends. It is worth mentioning that by taping our mouth while sleeping could disrupt our sleep rather than improving sleep.

Focus on metric over rest:

When we use an app to track sleep, then we would focus mainly on the numerical metrics like REM percentages and sleep scores etc. Truth is that if the numbers suggest poor sleep even after getting rested fully then it could lead to stress in us.

Note:

We must keep it simple while addressing our sleep problems. This has been mentioned by many sleep experts etc. There are many superb proven methods such as maintaining a sleep wake cycle, creating a dark cool environment for sleeping, avoiding heavy dinner and avoiding drinking caffeine, regular exercising etc before bed etc. We must try to follow these only to get a sound sleep during the night.
